FAQ
  • Where do tours depart from?
We offer free pick-up and drop off from Washington, D.C.: L'Enfant Plaza (Hilton Hotel 480 L'Enfant Plaza SW, Washington, D.C. 20024). Private tours offer more flexibility and alternate pick-up and drop-off can be arranged.
  • Which wineries do we visit on the tour?
We curate an unforgettable experience, we mix it up now and then depending on the day of the week and time of year, but generally we will pick 2 amazing stops. An emphasis is put on spending quality time at the local businesses rather than driving long distances.
  • Is lunch included? Where do we eat?
While the trip includes plenty of free snacks and water, lunch is not included. We will ensure that on our stops, food will be available for sale. You are also welcome to bring your own lunch and enjoy on our second stop. Further, upon request and as arranged in advance, we are happy to provide a lunch catered by a local business or include a lunch stop at a local restaurant (additional costs may apply).
  • Can we choose the stops?
Due to this being a scheduled group tour we cannot change the stops on the day unless to accommodate operational challenges. Should you prefer a custom tour where we assist you with planning your day or perhaps you know where you would like to visit then our private group tour could be just the right solution for your group. Call us to inquire about details.
  • How long is the tour?
Tours are all full day excursions (around 6 hours) unless otherwise planned. The scheduled tour picks up guests from D.C. around 10am and drops off around 4/5 pm. Private tours start and end times can be tailored depending on the itinerary. Additional hours on a tour (beyond the 6 hours included) are charged at a rate of $100/hour.
  • Will we meet other people on tour? How large are the groups?
Public Group Tour: Yes, this is a group scheduled tour and is the perfect option should you be looking to make some new friends and spend time exploring Virginia. Private Tour: This kind of tour is just for you and your group with the tour guide for the day. How large are the groups? We run private tours with a minimum of 12 people.
  • What if it's bad weather?
Most of the tasting rooms visited have fire places and other indoor comoforts and accomodations. So, rain, snow, or shine, unless there is a major regional climactic event, we will be touring. In the event of inclement weather, the decision to cancel will be made by Spirited Tours Staff at least 12 hours before the start of the tour. If roads are fair and our partners are open, we make every effort to run our tours as scheduled. If we have to cancel a tour due to weather, full refunds will be provided. Should you wish to reschedule due to inability to travel during the inclement weather, please give us a call at 1-888-602-3362 to discuss your options, a fee may apply if your tour was still scheduled to operate.
  • Is there a dress code and what should I bring?
There is no dress code. Just look presentable and wear something comfortable. You might want to take pictures, so plan ahead. Preferably no open-toe shoes or flip-flops. Feel free to bring sun hat (in the summer) and sunscreen, warm jacket or jersey (in the fall/winter/spring), comfortable shoes, extra cash if you would like to make any purchases (most locations have card facilities), camera, and your adventurous and happy self!
  • Can children join the tours?
On the public group tours - unfortunately not. Special arrangements can be made with prior arrangements but generally, the scheduled tour is not suitable for children. On pivate tour options can accommodate children as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please remember the legal drinking age is 21 years old.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Due to high demand for tours, tickets are non-refundable 1 week prior to the tour. Our cancellation policy for winery tours and wine tasting events is as follows: • Less than 1 week prior to tour : No date changes or refunds, fully-transferable to anyone 21+ of age • At least 1 week before tour: Full Refund We will do our best to accommodate rescheduling, but no guarantees of availability are provided. No date changes can be made within 1 week of scheduled tour, but tickets are fully-transferable to another party, just provide them the first and last name on your booking and they may attend in your place. If an event beyond our control occurs (weather, venue closings, other complications, etc.) that requires rescheduling, every effort will be made to plan book you on an alternate date. If no alternate date is convenient for you, you will receive 100% refund.
  • What if I make a mess or damage the vehicle during the tour?
In the event of guest sickness, damage to the vehicle, or mess requiring professional cleaning, the card used to pay for the booking will be charged a minimum of $300 unless the responsible party can be charged on site. Should the damages exceed $300, or Spirited Tours is unable to fulfill another tour commitment due to damage caused, the person making the booking and/or responsible party will cover the repair/cleaning and lost income costs incurred.
